TRANSITIONS
In post-editing, directors need to use a range of techniques to put the film together as the story moves from one scene to the next. These links are called transitions. The range of transitions includes: dissolves, wipes, fades, match cuts and wipes. A series of good match cut transitions are shown in the short animated film "Love Recipe". This is when one piece of film is 'cut' or digitally edited to be next to another piece of filming.
As shown below, a series of cuts are designed to match. As the action transfers between the bedroom and the kitchen. In the example below, the lady puts on red lipstick and then the shot match cuts to another red cherry shape as the man places a cherry on top of the cake.

TYPES OF TRANSITION
Dissolve cut |
Study the middle shot above....This shows how the previous shot of the cake is fading out and the new shot of the eye is fading in. This effect is called a dissolve.
